Comrades and Sisters,

As I start my tour as Department of Washington Commander, I am very grateful that my line officers are all of the same vision as mine; we are all here to serve you, the membership.  We expect to be on the road visiting as many Posts as possible and offering our help and friendship.  We hope that all of you will have enough trust in us to call if you need advice, help or guidance.  We have, at the Department Headquarters, resources to assist you in accomplishing your goals.  All you have to do is ask.

My goals for my year as Deparment of Washington Commander are simple:

1. Change the mindset that Deparment does not care, we do!
2. Turn around our membership numbers.  They have been in decline for some time now.
3. Assist Posts that are faltering by meeting with their members and finding solutions that may work better within their individual areas.
4. Improve the communication system within Department so that ideas are not only expressed from the top down, but also from the bottom up.
5. Work hand in hand with the Ladies and Men’s Auxiliary.  By doing this we all gain.
6. Continue supporting our Military Personnel and their families, Children’s Home, USO, National Military Services and the Wounded Warrior Battalion.

All of these goals can be accomplished.  All we have to do is work as one!
